Effective Sports Coaching - Steps to Success

Brief Book Synopsis

This book has been written for all sports coaches, who are interested in developing their knowledge and skills, and then using their learning within an applied setting.

The beauty of this book is its flexibility, in that the content can be adopted to any level of coaching and within a variety of sports or sporting contexts. Albeit, whether you coach in junior or youth development; in schools and college sports; in a recreational or community setting; or, coaching as a paid professional.

Self Help Author Stevie White extended his research to analyze some of the most successful sport coaches ever in the history of sport and presents 'Effective Sports Coaching - Steps to Success'  His aim was to see if he could find a common denominator - particularly, in relation to understanding why’ they became so effective and highly successful.

Regular references throughout the book are made to three highly successful International sport coaches. These being, the legendary USA NBL Basketball legend ‘Phil Jackson’; Australian Olympic Hockey-Roo's coach and back-to-back gold medalist ‘Ric Charlesworth’; and English Football guru ‘Sir Alex Ferguson’. The latter, coaching his beloved Manchester United to 13 league titles.

He has taken the tact, to consider some of the common issues that sport coaches can often face and then explains how to effectively deal with them. In chapters, ranging from identifying your ‘coaching philosophy’ to clarifying and developing your ‘coaching goals’ he also explains the critical importance of selecting your ‘coaching and leadership style’.

Inclusively, chapters are presented on the importance of ‘planning’, ‘communication’, to ‘managing conflict’, and understanding and developing ‘mental toughness’. Extending to the study of ‘stress’ and how it can affect coaching performance to ‘stress prevention.’

Final stand-alone chapters are presented on the ever-growing area of ‘sports laws’, and the ‘common and statute laws’ that govern coaching. Even to the point, of providing a real-life case study where things went horribly wrong. Another valuable addition is the inclusion of ‘sport psychology’.
